Nanofilter® Water Stations
Safe Water · Clean Health · Women Empowerment
Nanofilter® Water Stations serve families, schools and institutions with safe water while creating dignified jobs for women and youth entrepreneurs.
Executive Summary
Nanofilter® Water Stations use nano-technology developed in Tanzania by Prof. Askwar H. Hilonga to remove harmful contaminants and provide affordable safe drinking water across Africa. The model empowers women and youth entrepreneurs, thereby addressing both public health challenges and socio-economic transformation.
How It Works
Each station combines proven filtration stages with a customized nanomaterial that selectively removes microbial contamination, fluoride, turbidity, and related contaminants. The solution is built for low-maintenance operation in rural and peri-urban communities.
- Microbial contamination removal
- Fluoride & selected heavy metals reduction
- Turbidity and taste improvement
- Low-maintenance design
Women-Led Entrepreneurship
Every Nanofilter Water Station is intentionally operated by a local woman or youth entrepreneur—generating sustainable income, building leadership, and reducing gender inequality in water access and decision making.
Nanofilter® Water Stations directly contribute to:
- SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being
- SDG 5 – Gender Equality
- SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation
- SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
- SDG 13 – Climate Action
